Those Balls

Daum Halliwell was my personal assistant on NUNE. I put her through a lot. I made regular excursions to her house to track the “balls” that she offered to paint for me; a few props for the movie that needed some special attention. They were the “galaxy globes” that Nune would hold in her hands which would get crushed (metaphorically, the crushing of her reality by the thugs in school; in the film).

I gave Daum the arts & crafts project which she was heavily burden by because it became more complex than it appeared. We found out too late that they wouldn’t break no matter how hard we smashed the Styrofoam with a hammer. Week after week, I’d pick her up to go on errands and her jeans would be covered in paint. Finally, we found some Styrofoam that would crush and she painted the galaxies all over. Our next project was how to get a raw egg to crush beautifully in the palm of the bully’s hand. It was harder than we realized. We had to test this out to make sure it worked on camera. We went through a few eggs. Daum figured out a trick that made it go smoothly on film.

She was helping me with a lot of logistical stuff. I put her through so much that I am ashamed of my tunnel vision and my ignorance while making of that movie.

Executant of the Ineffable

The Three Gates of Speech stipulates that you ask these questions before putting your foot in your mouth: Is it True? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind? Since this doesn't fit the purpose for every occassion, the criteria for my path is: Is it True? Is it Necessary? Is it Indigo?
